My planned early departure from the motel didn’t quite happen his morning. I wasn’t feeling well at all when I woke up. I started to pack up but soon found myself back in bed for an extra hour of sleep. I think I may have overeaten last night (I was not successful in my mission to eat all the food I picked up yesterday).

The most entertaining part of today’s ride happened early on Grave Creek Rd. As I rode along, I saw a woman ahead run out to the road. She stood there, arms outstretched, with a banana in one hand and a huge mug of water in the other! It’s not very difficult to convince me to take a break, so I stopped to chat while I ate the banana and drank the water. Thanks!!

As I crested Whitefish Divide a few hours later, an ominous feeling came over me. Then I realized I had failed to buy lunches for this stretch to Whitefish! Don’t worry; I brought the remnants of last night’s failed food binge and still have more food than I need.

Just as I pulled into the Tuchuck Campground, three of the riders from the motel last night showed up. As it’s the Fourth of July, we all had expected to find a full campground here. To our surprise, we are the only ones here! Aaron, Curt, and Lee are sharing their campsite with me tonight. Unfortunately, their ride will end in Whitefish as they must return home for work. Hopefully, I’ll catch them in town for some pizza on Friday night before they leave.
