Day 78 – Grants
I got moving at daybreak this morning to get into town with enough time to finish chores and head out in the morning. The day dragged on and on. My legs don’t seem to be recovering anymore, which makes the riding… unpleasant…

Day 77 – Flat
I had a scare this morning when, 11 miles into the ride, I looked at my GPS to see that the route split off about 10 miles back. It took me a few panicked minutes to realize that my GPS track showed the alternate paved route.

Day 76 – Cuba
Lazy day today in Cuba. I had my hair cut, got a shave, resupplied, and did laundry. Back at the motel, I’ve been trying to eat as much as I can.

Day 75 – 4 wheelin on 1 wheel
Wow. New Mexico is tough. It was up and down all day today, and there was some rough terrain. A stretch of four-wheeling track stands out. It was slow going, but I somehow managed to ride the whole thing.

Day 74 – Climbing
Today, we began our assault on what some consider the toughest climb of the route. I found the road the road surface to make for interesting but exhausting riding.

Day 73 – Abiquiu
Josh, Jenny, and I are resting in Abiquiu today with our host, Wanda. Tre moved on this morning, but we hope to ride out of Silver City with him in several days.

Day 72 – Snack Shack
My goal this morning was to depart early enough to be ahead of the others by the time they got rolling. There was a colorful sunrise and rainbow as I began riding in a light rain.

Day 71 – Solo
Today’s riding was some of the most demanding of the trip. A few times, I wondered if I’d been transported back to Canada. I impressed myself with the improvement in my technical ability compared to the start of the trip.

Day 70 – New Mexico
We’ve made it to New Mexico! There were more stunning landscapes today as we pedaled out of Colorado. We’re camped just past the border in New Mexico; it’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that I’ve managed to pedal all the way here on one wheel.

Day 69 – Tenderloin
What a day; a favorite all around. Today brought us our highest pass and perhaps our biggest climb of the trip. I’d have to say the scenery today may have been my favorite of the trip so far.
