Day 51 – Guilty
I cheated on my muni with another wheel today—actually, two wheels. Don’t worry; I only rode backward on the route and made no forward progress.
Day 50 – Zero = Eight
Though I made no forward progress on the route today, I did ride about eight miles. The hotel is on the ‘other’ end of town.
Day 49 – Steamboat Springs
I enjoyed coffee and a sandwich for breakfast today. Kirsten even made me a sandwich for the road. I was very happy to have it when I stopped for a break at the top of today’s long climb. From there, it was mostly downhill to Steamboat Springs.
Day 48 – Magic!
Today, I rode a unicycle. It was hard. There were lots of Aspens. At some point, I crossed into Colorado.
Day 47 – Grant
Rather than backtracking two miles to the grocery store, I topped off my supplies at the Dollar General. I then went to the post office to mail some items home and got rid of my bear spray.
Day 46 – Half way there
I pushed hard today to get out of the Basin and into Rawlins, WY, with enough time to do some chores in town. It was a 55-mile dry stretch, but much of it was paved and fast. I did hit one speed bump. A rock-hard cow pie in the middle of the road caught me off guard...
Day 45 – Ups and Downs
My tent is glowing from a fire quickly engulfing a nearby mountain. I watched it grow from a tiny puff of smoke to the bright orange ball it is now. More on this later.
Day 44 – Sheep!
Sheep! Thousands and thousands of sheep! As the day neared its end, I approached a truck and camper on the side of the road. A big, old, and very friendly dog came over to greet me along with her pup. It took me a second to realize that the little one was actually a lamb.
Day 43 – On the road again
I’m back on the uni! All systems seem to be functioning. Changes to the setup include an actual sheepskin seat cover and a rear bar with bottle cages. Altogether, I have 8.7 liters of water carrying capacity on the uni.
Day 42 – Fixed up
‘Is it light out?’ If ‘no,’ think, ‘yay, more sleep!’ If ‘yes’ think, ‘this sleeping bag is so warm and comfortable’, then procrastinate exiting the bag for about an hour.
