Day 41 – Stuck
Last night, I dreamt of zombies and escaped by figuring out how to ‘coast’ on the unicycle. I zoomed down the mountain to safety but woke up to the real world. It was awesome while it lasted.
Day 40 – Mad Dash
As I rode this morning, I called unicycledotcom to see if I could get a replacement seat base shipped out. To have the part shipped out by the end of the day, I’d have to find a place in Pinedale to receive it before 2:00 my time. It’d be a push.
Day 39 – Major Malfunction
I am now sans handlebar, brake, and 4.7 liters of water-carrying capacity. At least my body, mind, and spirit seem to have weathered my longest day without breaking down.
Day 38 – Aquatic Ape
A bald eagle is perched atop the tree in front of my tent right now. It is munching on a trout that I watched it catch as I floated out on Brooks Lake at sunset. That’s right, I’m on a boat and still at Brooks Lake.
Day 37 – Drums
I can’t believe I’m paying $10 for a campsite tonight in the Shoshone National Forest when there’s plenty of free camping all around. I didn’t feel like looking for a campsite in the dark, so I’m here.
Day 36 – Teton NP
I suppose I may be a rarer sight than a Grizzly bear out here. As I rode up to a beautiful overlook of the Tetons over Jackson Lake, I noticed something wasn’t quite right. Instead of facing the lake and the mountains
Day 35 – 1,000 miles!
At some point today, I crossed the 1,000-mile mark. I feel like it, too. I also finished up my brief stint in Idaho and moved on to Wyoming.
Day 34 – Sandbox
Riding on black, volcanic, sandy soil that is washboarded and undulating is not recommended. It is especially not recommended for unicycles and/or after the sun has gone down. If you should decide to attempt to ride a unicycle through such terrain at dusk, you may find yourself in a cow pie.
Day 33 – Keep on truckin’
My biggest day yet, though not the hardest. The route’s really been flattening out lately, and today I didn’t have to fight too much wind.
